William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy that focuses on confused identities, playing into disguise, and exploring the difficulties of love. It focuses on Viola who has just got into a shipwreck and separates from her twin brother Sebastian, she then dresses herself up as a young man named Cesario, who enters the service of the Duke of Illyria Orsino. Orsino sends Cesario to try and get Olivia to fall for him, but Olivia then falls in love with Cesario who is actually Viola who falls for Orsino. The play explores themes of identity and desire. The key themes for the play are disguise, love, and class mobility.
Macbeth is a dark tragedy by William Shakespeare that follows the rise and fall of a Scottish nobleman, Macbeth. His unchecked ambition to become king leads him to commit treason against the king and seize the throne due to a prophecy told by three witches. He doesn’t completely like the idea of it at first, until he is pushed into it by his wife Lady Macbeth. As Macbeth struggles to maintain control, he steadily becomes more unstable and commits more murders to secure his position as king. Lady Macbeth was originally the mastermind behind the whole thing, but eventually she falls under a lot of guilt and ends up taking her own life.
